Bolton's squad are not just playing for Premier League survival but also their futures, manager Owen Coyle has warned.

The Trotters currently sit at the foot of the table are five point from safety and according to Coyle if things do not improve soon the "10 to 12" players who are out of contract in the summer will not be offered new deals anytime soon.

"I can totally understand why my owner would be reluctant to be handing out new contracts - until they are earned," said Coyle.

"That in itself should be a huge incentive for those players."

He said: "I feel that another period with Bolton would take him on to the next level of his career."

Manchester City are at the forefront of landing Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill this summer.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish is understood to also be interested in the centre-half.

However, the Mirror claims the Scot is likely to lose out to City in any battle for the England international’s signature.

Dalglish has earmarked the centre-back position as a priority are and sees Cahill as the perfect candidate.

But if Wanderers hold out for the £20 million they are demanding then this may price the Merseysiders out of the running.
