BOLTON WIN

Bolton once again proved the class with a great win over newly promoted West Brom. The Baggies created the better chances with Peter Odemwingie spurning three excellent openings for the visitors.

But West Brom fell behind before the break when Lee Chung-Yong showed great composure to tee up Matt Taylor who side-footed in from close range.

And Elmander sealed victory late on, slotting home at the second attempt. The Swede's ninth league goal of the season - with only four minutes left - came towards the end of the home side's best spell of an enthralling game.

COYLE WANTS CAHILL STAY

Owen Coyle has said that he wants Gary Cahill to stay at Bolton Wanderers. Cahill has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Bolton two years ago and made his England debut in September.

The 24-year-old has regularly been linked with other clubs and was most recently mooted as a target for reigning champions Chelsea.

However, Coyle does not want to lose any of his best players as he also tries to convince Johan Elmander to sign a new contract at the Reebok Stadium.

BOLTON COULD HAVE WON IT

Villa had dominated the opening 20 minutes, creating several chances to score alongside Young's strike, but Coyle's men showed resolve in coming back into the game and almost completely nullifying Villa's threat in the second half.

BOLTON RELEASE SHITTU

Bolton Wanderers have parted ways with defender Danny Shittu by releasing him from his contract. The 30-year-old centre-half joined the Trotters in 2008 following a positive two-year spell at Watford, but made only 12 appearances during his time at the club.

The player's failure to break into the first-team saw manager Owen Coyle giving the defender his blessing to hunt for a new employer.

BOLTON CAPTURE REAL MADRID DEFENDER

Bolton Wanderers have pulled off a major coup in the transfer market by signing young Real Madrid defender, Marcos Alonso. The 18-year-old will undergo a medical at the Reebok this weekend, ending Owen Coyle’s long and complex chase for his signature.

It is thought the Whites have agreed a fee of around £1.6million to land the Real Madrid full-back, who turned down the chance to join Portuguese giants Benfica to try his luck in the Premier League.

BOLTON CHASE NUGENT
