Gary Cahill has admitted that he is waiting to see what offers come in for him before he makes a final decision on where he will be playing next season. He will be out of contract in the summer of 2012, which means he'll be able to leave Bolton for nothing.
Big bids came in for Cahill from a number of clubs in the close season, most notably from Arsenal, when it was revealed that cahill was not going to be signing a new contract with the Wanderers any time soon. However, the board decided that they had a better chance of remaining in the Premier League with him rather than without him, so rejected all bids in favour of letting him play for Bolton for another 30 games or so. The latest Bolton betting suggests the board were right to make that call, with Bolton odds on to stay up again this season.
As his contract slowly ticks down, Cahill is fast becoming in demand by all of the great and good clubs, not just in the Premier League, but also in Europe. His composed performances for the England national side have also helped attract the attention of the big clubs - especially when he was able to hold the likes of David Villa and David Silva at bay in their most recent match against the World Champions.
"I admit that I am out of contract in the summer, at the end of the season, and I understand that there is going to be speculation," said Cahill. "At the moment, it's just a matter of keeping my focus week in, week out, and trying to play at the top of my game.
Asked where he thinks he'll be playing next season, Cahill told the press he wasn't sure. "I'll deal with it when and if the offers come. I don't have a crystal ball so don't really know what will happen. For the time being I am contracted to Bolton, and I'll deal with whatever happens next when it arrives."
Cahill has been linked to both Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan, and even Real Madrid. The Football betting markets say that Manchester City are the favourites to sign him, with Cahill effectively able to stay where he is, close to all his family and friends, without missing out on Champions League football.
It will be interesting to see whether he moves in the summer, or whether he secures Bolton one last pay day by leaving in January.
