Bolton Wanderers manager Dougie Freedman is starring the sack after a very poor start to the campaign, which has left the club bottom of the table after eight matches. Bolton are without a single win in this opening round of fixtures.
The team came into the weekend's match against Brighton and Hove Albion looking for the first win of the season, but they were disappointed yet again after a 3-1 defeat. This defeat has raised questions about the future of manager Freedman at the club.
There have been suggestions that Freedman would walk away from the club, which has severe financial problems. However, the 39-year-old has ruled out such possibilities by saying that he wants to stay and help the club over relegation. He has said that being a professional he cannot think about walking away from a project. Bolton will be hoping to get the first win of the season when they take on Yeovil Town next weekend. Freedman has been the Bolton manager since October 2012. He helped the club escape from relegation, while also making them into play-off position contenders last season.
Bolton only narrowly missed out on the top six spot last season. Otherwise, they would have competed in the play-offs, which would have given them an opportunity to go back into the Premier league.
"When you're in a professional game and you've worked at a professional level, you don't have that inside you. It's not inside me. We turned a lot around last season when we gathered some momentum. We are slipping over in certain matches but we're certainly not falling down. The good thing about is that these players can win football matches if they're focused and concentrated for 95 minutes rather than 80 minutes," said the 39-year-old after the match against Brighton on Saturday.
