Matt Mills is glad that Bolton Wanderers are not in the relegation zone anymore.
The Wanderers had dropped down to the relegation zone towards the end of last month, but, a couple of consecutive wins against Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic respectively in the first week of November has helped them get to the 21st position in the table.
After the Wigan game, Bolton had actually reached no. 18, but, then, the outcomes of the other games the following day got them down again. However, they remained just above bottom 3.
According to Mills, this is a morale booster for the team going into the international break.
Talking to the reporters yesterday, the 28-year old centre-back said, “We have started to go in the upward direction which is a great sign. The confidence is there in the group and we have been receiving a lot of support as well from the club fans. There is no reason why we can’t just keep going up and up from here.”
Mills skippered Bolton the other day in that game versus Wigan and the captaincy seemed to get the best out of him as he produced a brilliant defensive display, giving nothing away to the opposition attackers.
Neil Lennon, the boss, also praised him for that performance of his later that day.
When asked how it was to skipper the Wanderers, Mills said, “I have had a wonderful journey here at Bolton in the last two years and now, to lead them and that too in a big game, it was really a proud moment. I am thankful that it all went well. The boys clicked together and we won convincingly.”
Bolton currently has 17 points in 17 games with a negative goal differential of 7.
