BOLTON WANT BECKFORD

Bolton Wanderers have shown a lot of interest in signing Leicester City striker Jermaine Beckford, but the deal is far from being completed due to several issues.

Bolton are yet to agree a deal with Leicester, while they are also believed to be miles apart when it comes to agreeing personal terms with the striker. Former Everton striker Beckford is one of the best strikers in the Championship, but it seems that his astronomical wage demands may put off the deal.

He is thought to have requested in excess of £ 35,000 per week in wages, which will be unsustainable in the Championship. As a result, Bolton manager Dougie Freedman has said that Beckford should be aware of the fact that Bolton will not be looking to break the bank in order to secure his signature. This is seen as an indirect statement towards the player asking him to lose his demands in order to complete the deal. Bolton finished the last season in the mid-table, and they have identified some key players to strengthen.

Attack is expected to be one area that will get significant bolstering over the summer, but manager Freedman is aware that he does not have enormous funds at his disposal. Bolton's strict wage policy led to the departure of Marcos Alonso recently.

“I won’t be jeopardising anything by breaking the bank – that is not the way I work. We want players who want to come to this football club. I want them because they are hungry,” said the Bolton manager, who is obviously aware of the numerous problems faced by Championship clubs after dropping down from the Premier league. Several clubs have gone on to be relegated from the Championship despite receiving huge parachute payments for almost 3 years after the relegation from the top division.
