Bolton Wanderers secured a much-needed home win in the most crucial match they were facing in recent seasons.
Bolton were entertaining fellow relegation strugglers QPR during the weekend. It was an important match for Bolton given that there were very few options for them to get all three points other than facing relegation threatened teams.
QPR were one of them, as they were just one place above Bolton in the fight for staying up in the league. Mark Hughes has certainly not been a game changer at QPR, as he has not been able to provide an uplift to the club despite spending a lot of money in the January transfer window.
Even though Bolton managed to secure a controversial 2-1 win over QPR during the weekend, the club were not interested in the finer details of the match. Bolton were extremely concerned about the three points, and they got exactly that after a late goal from Ivan Klasnic gave them all three points.
Many pundits regard matches between the relegation threatened teams to be worth six points in essence. Bolton players Nigel Reo-Coker and Darren Pratley has said that this win is extremely crucial, but they should build on this win in the future.
“We know we have ten cup finals from now until the end of the season. We’re delighted to pick up three points after a tough game. I’m sure it wasn’t the best to watch, but when there are so many teams fighting down there [at the bottom of the Premier League] the win is so important. We always believed in ourselves," Pratley said after the match. Bolton are currently in the 17th position as a result of this win. QPR now drop into the relegation zone along with clubs like Wolves and Wigan athletic.
